Oxana Petrov, Educational Director

Oxana Petrov brings more than 15 years of expertise in early childhood and special education to the Kings Bay Y. A licensed teacher in New York State with a master of sciences degree in education and early childhood special education, Oxana has worked at the Kings Bay Y, Kiddie Academy and a special education pre-school on Staten Island. Prior to that, Oxana served as an educational director at several day care centers in Brooklyn. Oxana is an energetic and motivated professional who is always looking for new ways to enhance early childhood education.


Ilona Zeltser

Ilona Zeltser, Site Director

Ilona Zeltser has been with the Kings Bay Y for six years. She has worked her way up from an after-school counselor to floor supervisor and finally to the position the Kings Bay Y at Windsor Terrace Site Director. Ilona holds a BA in English Literature with a concentration in law and a minor in philosophy. Currently she is pursuing an MPA degree. She enjoys spending time with her nephew, reading and photography in her spare time.

Lena Eson Roe, Director of Community Engagement

Lena Eson Roe is excited to be the Director of Community Engagement for JCC Brooklyn, a project of the Kings Bay Y. Lena is a graduate of Wesleyan University with an M.S. in Special and General Childhood Education from Bank Street. You'll meet Lena as part of the Parent Committee, on a tour of our play-based daycare and preschool, and at pop-up JCC-style community events throughout the year. Lena has over a dozen years of experience teaching, coaching teachers, developing curriculum, and running community programming in schools, synagogues and camps. Originally from Albany, NY, Lena lives in Windsor Terrace with her husband and two children: Gabriel, who begins kindergarten in fall 2017, and Sophie, who just turned two.


Ronnie

Ronnie Cohen, UPK Head Teacher

Ronnie Cohen received her BA from Brooklyn College and MsED from Bank Street. She is NYS Certified in PreK, K and grades 1-6, with an additional Annotation in Early Childhood Education. After 20 years of teaching 2's, 3's and 4's at the Beth Elohim Early Childhood Center in Park Slope, Ronnie is delighted to join the staff at the Windsor Terrace Y. She strongly believes in a play based learning environment as the foundation upon which to build a positive classroom experience - one that nurtures curiosity, a love of learning, the development of interactional social skills, and a positive sense of self. Ronnie has a passion for music and hasn't yet met a dog that she could resist!

Sherry Nohar, UPK Assistant Teacher

Sherry Nohar was raised in Brooklyn and studied at City College with a double major in psychology and early childhood education. She worked with autistic children for about five years, volunteered at various public schools and also worked at Congregation Beth Elohim for two years. She's looking forward to joining the Windsor Terrace Y family this year and having the opportunity to nurture kids' growth, self-confidence and independence. In her free time she loves to tutor children, read, cook and spend time with her family.

 


 

 

Yarixa Rodriguez, Pre School Lead Teacher

Born and raised in Park Slope, Yarixa Rodriguez is excited to start her first year at Kings Bay Y as the Head Teacher of the orange room. She received her bachelor's degree in Children and Youth Studies from Brooklyn College and is working on her master's in Early Childhood Education. Yarixa realized her love for working with children at a young age and is thrilled to be fulfilling her passion. She worked for many years at Congregation Beth Elohim Early Childhood Center including the last three where she was an Assistant Teacher. During her free time, Yarixa enjoys her time with her seven-year-old daughter and loves being with family.

 


Valionica Fayette, Pre School Assistant Teacher

Valionica Fayette holds a NY State teachers certification for preK-2. She studied Psychology at Queens Borough College and will be continuing on with a minor in Education. Val started in an after school program and, from there, quickly worked her way up to assistant teaching over the past 5 years. When she’s not working Val can be twirling in Aerial Silks or spinning in Lyra, or teaching dance to elementary school children. She has just finished a summer as the assistant teacher in the Kings Bay Y at Windsor Terrace Programs and is looking forward to her first full year with the Kings Bay Y family.

Crystal Williams, Child Care Head Teacher

Crystal Williams, a native of Brooklyn, has over 20 years of experience in the childcare field. She is passionate about working with children and making sure they are well taken care of. I always make sure. She’s worked at the Kings Bay Y for many years before moving to Albany for the past five years where she continued working in the early childhood education field. She looks forward to the teaching the new group of kids in the child care program and spending time with her daughter and grandson in her spare time.



Svetlana

Svetlana Orberg, Assistant Teacher

Svetlana Orberg was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia. She earned her degree in Communications in 2012. Svetlana joined the Kings Bay Y team almost 3 years ago. Working with kids is a rewarding experience and she believes that every child deserves an opportunity to express themselves to their fullest potential. Svetlana characterizes her teaching approach in three key words: love, patience and consistency. In her free time Svetlana likes to sing and cook.

Katherine Sackman, Music Teacher

Katherine Sackman is a teacher, pianist, and singer/songwriter that is joining us this year for music! She is pursuing her degree in music education at the Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College. Katherine began as Tkiya’s first intern in 2014, and now teaches Tkiya Tots & Tkiya Kids at Sid Jacobson JCC. She also helped launch Tkiya’s newest program, Tkiya For Life, for the elderly! Katherine loves to help students understand music’s connection to dance & movement through games, sign language, and more!
